About Dr. John Frauens
An experienced surgeon, Dr. John Frauens serves the State of Hawaii Department of Public Safety Division of Corrections in his capacity as volunteer orthopedic consultant. The position requires that he care for incarcerated patients throughout Hawaii’s penal system. Before accepting his current position, Dr. John Frauens worked as orthopedic surgeon with Kaiser Permanente in Honolulu. Over his tenure, he performed thousands of joint replacement procedures and maintained a very low complication rate.
In preparation for his career, Dr. John Frauens studied at the Temple University School of Medicine, from which he secured his doctor of medicine. He then completed his surgical internship at the same university. Later, Dr. Frauens became orthopedic rehabilitation fellow and resident with the University of Virginia Medical Center. He received his undergraduate education at Temple University as well, graduating cum laude with his bachelor of science in physical therapy.
Committed to aiding his local community, Dr. Frauens supports Common Grace, a charitable group dedicated to helping young people, as board member. He is also a fellow with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery.
